Referee Development

Overview

Welcome to Guelph Soccer's Referee Development Page!!

All Referee education and development information will be posted here. Referee schedules are posted within the Referee Secured Area. All referees registered with Guelph Soccer should visit this area on a weekly basis to check for officiating assignments.

New Referee Classification System

The Canadian Soccer Association under their new regulations and control of Match Officials have created a new Classification System for referees in Canada. As of January 1st 2009, all Ontario referees will be affected by this new classification system and will be upgraded accordingly.

This chart in graphic format, how each referee will be affected.

Other changes  that will be made based on the new regulations include:

Changes to the Entry Level Course (old C4 course)

Introduction of a new Mini Soccer Referee Course

Uniform and badge changes.

Mini Referee Course

The intent of this course is to introduce officiating to 12 & 13 year olds (must be 12 no later than April 1, 2010).

The focus of this course is to be interactive, inductory and have the young referees understand the basic concepts of refereeing. They will then apply this knowledge to officiating mini soccer players in the ages U9 and U10.

The course is based on the OSA mini- soccer guide and rules published here.

This course will run for 6 hours, and will be a combination of in-class as well as practical instruction.

Guelph Soccer will offer 2 one day Mini Ref courses: March 20th from 8am-2pm, and April 17th from 8am-2pm. The clinics will take place at St. Johns Kilmarnock School, Shantz Station Rd, Breslau.

Entry Level Course

Guelph Soccer will also host the CSA Entry Level Referee Course. This course was designed by the CSA with the aim of providing a more uniform approach in teaching the Laws of the Game, leading to a greater degree of understanding and application of these laws.

Participants are required to register for a course and complete a pre-course workbook, in class workbook, and pass an examination at the conclusion of the course. Those who pass the examination will be certified as CSA District Referees (if over the age of 16) or Youth Referees (if under the age of 16).

The course will run for 2 days, and will be a combination of in-class as well as practical instruction.

Guelph Soccer will offer 2 two day Entry Level Ref courses March 20th from 10am-4pm and 21st from 9am-4pm, and April 24th from 10am-4pm and 25th from 9am-4pm. The clinics will take place at St. Johns Kilmarnock School, Shantz Station Road, Breslau.
