Guelph Union to join as new team in Women's League 1 Ontario

Press Release - Guelph Union

It is with great honour and privilege that we introduce the Guelph Union women’s semi-professional soccer team to our community and the League 1 family. The Guelph Union is a coordination of the efforts of Guelph Soccer, and our amazing community. Our goal is to ignite higher expectations with our players, our community, and our youth.

Sara Orrell, GM of Guelph Soccer, states, “Establishing a League 1 women’s program is an exciting next step for our organization and our community. This program aligns with our efforts to get more women and girls playing and remaining in the game. Our vision as an organization is to keep high-level female athletes visible in our community and inspire our players to dream big.”

The Guelph Union is proud to be part of Guelph Soccer and will help to complete the player pathway for girls in our club. Having the Union players visible and connected will give every aspiring player something to dream towards.

“Guelph Soccer has had a long tradition of providing young women the opportunity to play senior soccer. There are many individuals who have been at the forefront of that for quite some time. With the introduction of the Guelph Union, it will provide even more opportunities for young women to participate in high level soccer right here in our city.” states Shayne Campbell, Football Director for the Guelph Union.

The addition of the Guelph Union to Guelph Soccer will also provide the opportunity for young women that want to continue in sport, but in other ways and areas off the field, in such areas as gameday experience and operations. The Union can help to provide those types of opportunities too, beyond the playing experience.

We are excited to begin the journey.

Guelph, we play for you.
