Guelph Soccer Club Expands Partnership with Guelph United FC by adding OPL Men’s and Women’s U20 Teams
Guelph, Ontario — The Guelph Soccer Club is proud to announce an exciting expansion of its partnership with Guelph United FC through the addition of their Ontario Premier League (OPL) Men’s and Women’s U20 teams.
This enhanced collaboration strengthens the shared commitment of both organizations to provide elite player development opportunities within Guelph and to support the continued growth of the soccer pathway for local athletes this upcoming summer.
The introduction of the U20 OPL teams represents a significant step forward in bridging youth development with the next level of competitive play, offering talented players a clear pathway within their home community.
“This expansion is an important milestone for the Guelph Soccer Club,” said David Frizzell, Executive Director of Guelph Soccer Club. “By adding the Guelph United Men’s and Women’s U20 OPL programs, we are creating stronger opportunities for players to continue their development at a high level while staying connected to our club and community.”
This partnership builds on the successful Fall program, which saw the Guelph Soccer Club manage the Men’s Fall U20 program for Guelph United.
Guelph United FC has been a key partner in supporting the advancement of competitive soccer in the region, and this new phase of the partnership further reinforces the shared vision of excellence, accessibility, and long-term player success.
“Continuing our partnership with Guelph Soccer Club is an important step in our long-term vision,” said Mickael Rougette, General Manager and Men’s First Team Head Coach, of Guelph United FC.
Benny Mezezi, Co-Founder of Guelph United FC added, “by sharing talent and resources, we can collectively drive the growth and development of soccer within the Guelph community.”
The Guelph United U20 programs will serve as a premier environment for athlete development, preparing players for opportunities at L2 and the First team with Guelph United.
The Head Coach for the Women’s U20 program will be Sydney VanderHoef. Sydney has had a direct impact on the development of young players with the Guelph Soccer Club. While also being a member of the Guelph United First Team, Sydney is committed to developing this group of young players who will wear the Guelph United colours with aspirations of playing for the First Team.
The Head Coach for the Men’s U20 program will be Justin Springer. Currently the Technical Director of the Guelph Soccer Club, Justin will lead the Men’s team this upcoming summer season. His player centric approach will benefit the roster of players with their continued development.
